She has also witnessed and sought relief for those Palestinian U.S. citizens who have been denied entry, deported, or threatened with deportation from the West Bank. She will present the basic elements of the occupation, the relevance of international law to the occupation, how the occupation affects Palestinians and Israelis, the role of the Friends International Center in Ramallah, and what Americans can do to press for a just peace for Palestinians and Israelis.
For nearly 25 years, Kathy BergenŐs career has focused on achieving peace with justice for Palestine/Israel through work for the American Friends Service Committee, the Mennonite Central Committee, and other organizations working for peace through non-violence. Before taking up the position with the Center she was for 12 years National Coordinator of the Middle East Program of the Peacebuilding Unit in the national office of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
